OAPSE Strike Update
This statement is from Morgan Local Schools Superintendent Dr. Kristin Barker
We are delighted to share some good news our students, families and community have been waiting to hear. Working together, the Morgan Board of Education and the OAPSE Local #51 today reached a tentative contract agreement with the help of a federal mediator. The tentative contract includes a total raise package of over 14% over three years (6% in year one, 4% in year two and 4%). This is in addition to yearly step wage increases.
Union membership voted and approved the tentative agreement this afternoon. The Morgan Local School District Board of Education will meet in an emergency session this Sunday, March 12 at 5 p.m. to approve the contract. Union members will report to their school assignments as usual on Monday, March 13. Regular school buses transportation will resume then, following the regular pick-up/drop-off schedule.
Both sides worked hard to get to this point, and we want to sincerely thank everyone on the negotiating team for their hard work, diligence and commitment.
We have great respect for the bargaining process. We know that emotions can become intense
whenever people are passionate about a cause. We are now ready to move forward together in the interest of our greatest mutual passion – to educate our children and provide them the opportunity to achieve the skill required to work productively, live successfully, and be a contributing member of society in their lives beyond Morgan Local Schools.
